TCCHS a 'distinguished' school, thanks to Class of 2013
State test results show Todd County Central High School has been labeled a “distinguished” school rising to the top 9 percent of all Kentucky high schools.
The Kentucky Department of Education on Friday released data from the Unbridled Accountability System, which is in the second year.
TCCHS is among 65 high schools in the state to receive a “distinguished” classification, the highest a school can earn in the assessment. Its climb to the top came a year after the school was declared a “needs improvement” school.
According to the results, TCCHS made gains in every area – reading, mathematics, science, social studies, writing, language mechanics, and college and career readiness (CCR).
The key academic growth area was in CCR. More than half (56.5 percent) the graduating Class of 2013 achieved status in this area, representing a 20.1 percent increase from the 2012 rate of 36.4.
Principal Todd Marshall said TCCHS focused on each student’s needs last year, especially CCR benchmarks. Students were tested on a number of standard national assessments – ASVAB, PLAN, ACT, Compass, KOSSA and others.
